Anybody out there modeling NP's SD45's in N scale. I've got one of the new Bachmann SD's coming, and plan to paint it for NP.

Are the Bachmann units now available? I'd not seen an announcement. Would enjoy seeing some photos of these units when you are done. To me, the NP SD45 was a symbol of brute power. Loved the sight of them.

They seem to be out only in selected places. I got mine from a hobby shop on E-bay. I'm hoping they are as good as the few reviews I've read have said. I have a Kato GN SD45, but they are hard to find, and too expensive. I'd eventually like to have a brace of NP's, and a couple in GN big sky blue, to go with my F45. I agree, I do like them in NP's black and yellow. I'm hoping the engines in them will allow them to run with my three NP U25C's

I converted 3 Atlas U25B's to them using Robert Ray's conversion. They are a scale 7 feet too short, but they look great coupled together pulling a grain train. They capture the spirit of the units, and I doubt anyone will come out with one. I got my SD45 in the mail today, it's got great detail, including wire coupler cut levers, amazing for a Bachman engine. I remember the old days of their products, Yikes! I'll let you know how it runs, I'm going to try it out on my layout when I get home for lunch. Looking forward to painting it in NP's colors. graemlins/notworthy.gif graemlins/wink.gif graemlins/wow.gif graemlins/cool.gif

I have a few pic of them, but I'll try and get a few of them in action on a unit train. My digital camera is an older on, so the pictures aren't as good as the newer ones by a long shot, but it will at least show them. The Bachmann SD45 runs terrific. It's got white LED lights, and looks pretty good compared to my Kato Gn Sd. I'll try and get some pictures on here tonight or tomorrow. graemlins/wink.gif

Here is a link to some pictures of my 3 Northern Pacific U25C's that I converted from U25B's as per Robert Ray's article. Sorry for the quality of the pics, I'm using an older digital camera.

Thanks Boxcab. I'll take some more pictures and post them. I'm almost finished painting my Bachmann SD-45 in NP's colors.

I posted a picture of my Bachmann SD45 with my NP Russell plow in my album. It's nice to finally have one of those brutes in NP colors. It's really nice running engine. Kudos to Bachmann! graemlins/notworthy.gif
