I think they are kinda' rare... (at least in these parts) however, a recent train had not ONE but TWO low nosed SD40-2 locos !

Quite a site!

It's the 11 high-hood SD40-2s (1625-1635) that are rare... the rest of N&Ws SD40-2 fleet were low-nose.

Yeah, but there are only 16 low nosed ex-N&W units on the roster as well..

Anyway, IN THESE PARTS, they are pretty rare..

Check that roster again [ smile.gif ]

N&W had ten high-nosed 1625-1635, another 17 1636-1652, and 134 6073-6207...

Last I checked, in the 1600 series, 3 were retired (1628, 1640, 1645)

In the 6000s, 6207, 6134 and 6154 were retired (6207 and 6134 rather dramatically), 6206 was converted to a SD38-2 3821...

You should come up to SW Va and railfan for a weekend... we got plenty of EMDs out of Radford (they hold down the many locals)

My mistake... I was thinking about how many low nosed units were in the 16xx series (and I was still off one redface.gif )

The railfanning in the area is decent, and in an hour you can be in Roanoke or Bluefield...

We N&W fans will let you slide on this one. I have to admit, I do like the ex-Southern SD40-2 hi hoods (the horror of it all!) A.J.

My mistake... I was thinking about how many low nosed units were in the 16xx series (and I was still off one redface.gif )
