OK guys, we need help again. Ron Morse sent me this neat photo of Niagara 6004 and wants to know where it was taken. Do any of you recognize the city? The scan lacks the definition of the original. Part of the sign on the distant building over the engine says "Dixie Flyer."

Fitz, can the photo be re-scanned at a very high resolution, selecting only the sign? If that area could be blown up, maybe you could make out more details ... ? Or make out another sign on another building?
"Dixie Flyer" might indicate Louisville, KY, but do you think that we would have seen a Niagara in Loiusville, or the NYC coach(or baggage, or RPO?) behind it?

Correction--both Ron and I have looked at the sign on the building, and it says "......Flyer Dixie Limited C&EI". There was probably something ahead of Flyer but it's cut off in the photo. C&EI would be Chicago and Eastern Illinois. That doesn't necessarily make it in Chicago, as the C&EI had a lot of track in Illinois as did the NYC.

Hummm..... It's not LaSalle Rail Station in Chicago? (With the tall tower building in the background 'painted out'.

That sure is a similar picture, Eddie. Like I told Ron, all of those cities looked alike back then. I still don't know...........

Shel Lustig has decided it's Chicago, too. I guess that's the answer. smile.gif

I didn't get a chance to reply earlier, but I would bet on Chicago as well.
