Since I am temporarily between jobs, I was sorting some of my Videos when I came across Donald J. Krofta’s New York Central Big Four Route Vol. 1 by Herron Rail Videos. I’ve seen it before, but I decided to take an hour and watch it again.

It was fantastic watching the Mohawks, Mikados and Hudsons working out their last year or two in Ohio and Indiana in 1955 and 1956. The sights and sounds brought back memories not only of the trains, but of the cars and structures and houses near the track.

Tomorrow, I’ll watch Vol. 2. I don’t own Vol. 3. Maybe I’ll see if I can’t pick up Vol. 3. That is mostly early diesel.

Recommended? Yes.

I only wish that he had stopped here on his travels. :-( Tape two has a couple of shots of Niagaras at work as the end drew near. just a little over a year later, these steamers were all sidelined and sold for scrap a year or so later. You can catch them still hard at work.

There is plenty of action, good sound and good narration and a well done set of shots.
