I grew up near the old New York Central Yard on the Upper Westside of Manhattan. I watched them from my stroller in the late 50's and played in them as a teen. Only when they were doomed, did I realize how important they once were to the City, but always and forever important to me.
I'm asking the best of the best railfans out there to help me find some pictures online or in a book, of the old yard. I have about 4 Polaroids of it and that's about it. I can't believe that I never shot much film there. But it wasn't always the best place to take a camera.

John, probably one of the best sources of photos of the New York City yards would be the "Central Headlight" publication of the New York Central System Historical Society. They used to have a website but it has been inactive lately. In any event, in order to join you have to contact them by snail mail at:
NYCSHS
P.O. Box 81184
Cleveland, OH 44181-0184
Dues are $30 a year. smile.gif

Thanks Fitz.
I've seen maybe one or two photos of the yard.
It's a tough one to find. I will contact them.
