I have an engine I am going to paint up in the green and yellow scheme. I have found the Polly S Katy green. But alas, no yellow. What is the closest match to this? Thanks!

I have see Modelflex Katy yellow. Scalecoat may not make it, but I am pretty sure that others do.

Just to be curious (OK, nosy), how are you painting this engine? Green first, then mask off & paint yellow?
And yes, I've seen the Modelflex MKT Yellow. Seeing as it's water-soluble, I'd recommend it as well.

We need some air brush painters here, but I think you paint the lighter colors first. This is especially true with yellow. I think it would be very difficult to cover the Katy green with the yellow.

well...... that was my original thought. but after doing some looking at the microscale site and doing some surfing. it looks like i could decal all of it to make it work. i was going to paint me a single engine to do the katy, but my underlying idea was for my home road, which is running the katy color scheme. i was also thinking about doing some covered hoppers in my road name but using the yellow instead of the green..... but i deeply appreciate the information. thanks!

I think you'd almost have to shoot the green, over yellow. Otherwise, the yellow might be effected by trying to put it on top of the darker color.
However, I was going to suggest looking at decals. But that's already been mentioned. If these are readily available, I'd be very tempted. Instead of trying to mask for all those tiny stripes.

Floqil has a Katy green. I have used it before on sd40-2. On thing about decaling over green. One problem with decals is that the green bleeds thru. I had to double decal to get the bright yellow. Just took time. One thing I did was shoot a clear cote over the first decalling. This Provided a good base for the second round of decalling. I always decal over clearcote. That gives the decal a flat smooth surface.

Beast check my MKT topic
Detailing and painting UP GP40 and GP40-2 to a MKT Project (http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/9/t/004289.html)
Be careful where you purchase your decals from, all the decals I bought were old and disintegrated very easily.
I used modelflex MKT green and its pretty much a perfect match.
Good luck with this project

colonel,
thanks. worry it took me so long ot post, but that looks like a pretty good start, got some of the 60-181s on order with wig-wag. got the engine painted, not too bad, but for my first engine, which is supposed to be pretty aged, it doesn't look too bad. thinking about getting some pictures shot, but i may wait until i get the decals in so i can try and match the yellow for the handrails. thanks again!!

Richard,
Would really like to see some pics, the decaling is pretty difficult but just do a little at a time.
