Can anyone give me a catalog number, possibly for Floquil paint, to match the green of MKT diesels? Or the yellow they used in stripes? Or a decal set in N scale (Microscale?) that would have those stripes?

Try Microscale Set number 180 for the yellow lettering, and 181 for the yellow stripes.

I checked the Microscale online catalog for N-scale Katy decals, and these are what came up (i.e. 60-180 and 60-181) for the 1972-1988 John Deer Green Scheme. These should also be available at least for HO scale (87- instead of 60- ).

Paul-

So they called it "John Deer Green?" That should make tracking down the paint I want a lot easier.

Thanks! This helps a lot.

That's what I usually hear it called. YOu might also hear it called Whitman Green, since R.N. Whitman was the President of the MKT when the scheme was adopted.

The scheme is a bit out of my realm of interest with the Katy, as I am primarilly interested with joint Frisco/Katy passenger trains.

Hello BoxcabE50,
Here is the information you wanted

Paint is Floquil M.K.T. Green F110320
and the decals are

Microscale
__ - 180 Missouri-Kansas- Texas Diesel (1972-1988 this is lettering and numbers.

__- 181 Missouri-Kansas-Texas Diesel Striping (1972-1988)

The yellow I haven't used yet so don't have it .
The blank space in front of the number is to be used for HO/N scale.

John Deeree Green is also a good match and the closes in my opion.

I have another question. ;) Does anyone know, or is there a name for the yellow they used during the same period, for letters and numbers.

Boxcab E50 Well, if there was a Deramus Red, then there should have been a Hilarious Yellow. I have a bottle of Badger Modelflex 16-81 Katy Yellow. It seemes to match all the decals pretty well.

So that Badger color would be good with their green scheme?

"Hilarious Yellow?" There must be a story behind this comment. You've made me curious!

I guess Hilarious does not really rhyme with Deramus, so that name really was a poor choice. graemlins/shakehead.gif
Anyway the Badger color worked with the Badger Katy Green for the John Deere scheme.
