can anyone tell me if the soo line candy apple red sd40-2s had black walkways and a black
on the top of the short hood

Yes. Black on top of the nose. And I seem to recall that the black on top of the nose had a specific purpose. Either an anti-glare, or non-slip surface. Or possibly both?

You posted this twice. On your other post I linked some photos I took from a bridge that shows the top of a SD60 but the SD40-2s were painted the same.

Boxcab, It's main purpose was to cut down the glare. Quite a few railroads used this method on thier low hoods!!
