A real railfan treat!...unusual around here.

Spotted a solo pair of SOO Line SD60s (#6000 traditional red and white, and #6048 all red) with a solid train of "Auto Max" racks at 0640am (EDT) on Fri May16th, westbound at Dunkirk, NY on CSX.

Thought for a moment I had been teleported to the Upper Midwest!

Anybody know the origin of this train?

Well, all I can tell you is that SOO power commonly roams the CP system. It shows up regularly on the D&H, in the form of both SD40-2s and SD60s. I have photographed solid SOO sets before.

I also know that there is a power agreement, and somehow CP engines end up in Selkirk, NY (CSX yard), then head up to Albany to get turned over to the CP.

Thanks Corey, but this sighting was at the other end of the state, heading westbound.
I was thinking it came from Canada thru Buffalo with Chrysler products. Isn't there a big Chrysler minivan plant in Ontario? As I said, pretty darn unusual around here....but a real treat!

nskid, first off welcome to Trainboard. Great to have you on board!
Next, thanks for the plant info. This train was headed west (toward Toledo), loaded, on the old NYC Water Level Route (now CSX). So I think it would have had to be loaded somewhere northwest of Buffalo, ie: in eastern Ontario. If it had been loaded in Detroit, taking the rails along the northern side of Lake Erie would have been the long way around, right?
Thanks again,
Bill
