I was looking at a book in my LHS the other day and I saw a very nice looking red diesel with something like chicago central written on it. It looked cool and I want more info on it now. Any one know what it was?
60's or 70's era BTW

Well yeah I should finish the first one before going onto another but yes I am very interested in that paint scheme.
So hows it going? i'm running trains on unitrack like a fiend now swing by sometime. smile.gif

I was just looking at one of those links and counting diesels. The railroad only owned 112 diesels. It is almost feasable to model the entire fleet. LOL

Chicago Central & Pacific was the spin-off when ICG sold the Iowa Division around 1985. IC bought back the IA div in 1996. CC used a paint scheme similar to IC Green Diamond, but it was red instead of black.

I always thougt the CC&P was cool with all their GP-10 Paducah's and the few GP38's. The line is real popular here so I started painting some GP38's in N scale.

My Friends Father lived not far from the IC's IA Div (EX CC). When the IC bought the CC in 1996, the top speed on the line was 10mph, IC Upgraded the line to 35MPH. When I moved in 1999, the IC was in negoiations with UP to have UP coal trains run over that line. If that deal happened, UP would help pay for upgrades on the line to at least 55 mph. I am not sure if that deal went through, and IF it didn't, then IC might have upgraded it any way. CN owning the IC now, does use the line a fair amount from what my friend said, so it might be updraded by now.

When I first moved to IL in late 1996, the old CC&P was not too far from my wife's parents house. I would get off work around 3:00 and grab Tina, go to the Alworth siding and wait for the 4:00 local. Drove my future mother-in-law nuts:p I was lucky enough to get photo's of the last days of the CC&P from Rockford to Freeport IL. My favorite picture is the one of many grain trains pulling the grade up from Alworth with a red CC&P GP-10 in the lead, with two other GP-10's in the consist. The second was in IC black and the third was in ICG orange and white. My wife grew up next to this line in Seward IL and says this is why she is into trains now.

Cool. The CC paint scheme was nice, even if it was just a rip-off of ICs green diamond.

I always liked the red, it was a nice change of pace from the Guilford Gray and Conrail Blue I had seen in NH. I always liked the orange & white ICG paint and I found plenty of them on this line. I cross these tracks every night on my way home from work. I wish the CNW was still here, I could railfan in my front yard if they were:cry:

If CGW (and C&NW to an extent) was still here, I could railfan in my yard, too.
