i was wondering why this is in the fallen flag section when the ic is not gone yet? it will happen soon but hasn't yet until the ic's 150th anniversary. when we call the ic dispatcher for the chicago districts it is still ic not cn dispatcher.

Good point, I have heard some "Canandian Chatter" on my scanner when the trains on the Peoria Sub call for clearance for the IC/UP crossing here in Lincoln. They will call out something like "CN/IC #---- calling UP dispatcher, need clearance for crossing at West Athol(whatever that is)..." Anyway, IC is still a railway until the end of this year at least. But then it's all CN... :( smile.gif I'm sorry, I don't know if I'm happy or sad about this.

Tell me, do we really need another UP in the US? I mean come on, CN is large enough, what would our fellow Canadians think if BNSF or UP took over BC Rail? I think IC should stay IC, even if it is owned by our northern Neighbors.

Actually, I think IC stopped reporting as a seperate company in 1999.

My layout will still have orange and white regardless.

CN purchased IC on February 11, 1998.

IC was merged into CN on July 1, 1999.

What a coincidence! IC went into CN on July 1,1999 and CGW went into C&NW on July 1,1968

Hmmm. If we could avoid July 1, does that mean there'd be fewer mergers? Just a thought.......

I'm stilling seeing mostly IC, some CN and GT, in Effingham and Mattoon, ILL., Black though not any orange an white. The yard office in Effingham says CN/IC.

I agree they should leave the IC colors as is even if CN owns it. The history this colors have is something

Told in a news release that the IC sold the track from Newton, IL over to Palistine, IL and into IND. to the Indaina RR this past spring. Don't remember anything in it bout CN. Mostly Ind coal, ethanol, grain, and some freight moves on it.

That sale must have happened at the same time the INRD acquired some ex-Milw tracks into Terre Haute area.

Yes. I know. Was just musing, attempting to be somewhat humorous. Of course it's done that way, for accounting/tax purposes.

I miss the old I.C.. I began my railroad career about 35 years ago in the summer of 1968 out of Champaign, Illinois as as a brakeman while going to college. The railroad was just starting to use the orange /white paint schemes but things changed much slower back then and the freight locomotives were black with white striping and the green diamond with the passenger E units all in the orange /chocolate scheme. All freight trains had a bright red side door caboose on the tail, and the passenger trains on that division were allowed a 112 MPH max. speed. Looking back on that period (through rose colored glasses) it was a good time to railroad.. probably not as effecient or profitable as today but it still had a personality and things on the roads I worked for were generally neat and clean. If any one has questions regarding that period or type of operations/car types/industries switched I would be happy to respond as time allows.

Isn't it interesting looking back through old posts....the irony here is that CN bought BC Rail as well..... ;)

Welcome Barry to the IC forum here, good to have another IC fan aboard.

There wasn't much time between the two. The Milw trackage was from Terre Haute to Evansville, IN.

On the Palistine trackage, really all it was that INRR got the tracks and right of way. They already had trackage rights from an earlier IC purchase [2001] on the tracks east of the Wabash river.
