Dig around here:

Click on the car number. It takes you to links to pictures of that car.

GNFA310,
First, let me welcome you to Trainboard!!!
Second, let me note that the Bachmann full dome is an incorrect car for a Great Dome Lounge. The window arrangement is totally wrong! The best way to build this car, is to sand the sides flat, and slap on some Brass Car Sides (http://www.brasscarsides.com/pdf%20tech%20sheets/GN1390.pdf), and then paint it.. Then it will be correct, and look much like this one I built 3 years ago:

http://www.railimages.com/albums/N/act.sized.jpg Thanks for the info and pic. I have seen this pic before ... and I knew about the window configurations. There are five of the Bachmann cars on my roster; but only two have the brass sides. Bachmann's car may not be correct for GN, but theirs is the ONLY 85' full length dome in production.

Trying to find pics of these cars in EB colors though has proven rather difficult. Only difference I see with your car and the prototype is that the green goes completely around the lower windows? What few pics I have seen all show the cars painted that way. But I love what you've done with the car.
:D

:D I painted mine to match my Kato smoothsides, and the stripes match in line. That may be why the car's stripes don't match perfectly. That, and it was my first passenger car build. I gathered my info from a book, 'GN Color Guide To Freight & Passenger Equipment', by Hickcox.

1. The F's only had aluminum trucks for barely three years (that I know about) when everything started getting painted in BSB colors. graemlins/shakehead.gif

2. For the passenger cars, Kato is merely re-releasing their previous smoothside EB cars (okay, so they did some name changing this time ... ); but only a 12 car consist? When the average EB train length was 15 cars? Worse, no prototpical diner, much less no full length dome car?!!? But they can do a very accurate 11 car California Zephyr as well as ATSF Super Chief?? graemlins/nono.gif

Once I learned all this I cancelled my order with my dealer.

Con Cor at least had the correct Empire Builder cars, even if they were "mirror imaged." graemlins/shakehead.gif

I got excited too, and heard about the old car repaint, then totally nixed it. I have the older 16-car EB set, and added the Great Dome Lounge car. I have the ABA set of F7's coming, but that's it. I have the CZ, and it's sweet, but why did they do the EB an injustice in this manner??? If they would build the whole train PROTOTYPICALLY, I'd buy a set, and sell the old ones on ebay.
You may have visited this site, since you know that some CC cars are mirrored:

The shame is that some CC cars have a substandard paint job, so building a proto train is possible, but requires lots of painting.

There was a time Con Cor was the best you could buy ... but it seems Jim Conway is still stuck in the 1970's. graemlins/226.gif Instead of actually upgrading his products he resorted to just re-manufacturing the 'old' stuff; flaws and mistakes included. And even the "new" products are not up to the quality standards of Kato, Atlas, IM, etc. graemlins/225.gif

It surprises me Con Cor remains in business at all.

Thanks for all the help and photo's. I now have two B'mann full length domes being painted in EB colors. I have two others that I will be ordering Brass Car sides for and they also will be painted in EB colors. smile.gif
