Can anyone tell me what classes, etc., these two numbers were? 1787, 1845. This would be when assigned to the Kalispell Division, during the 1950's.

They were O-7's and O-8's,
2-8-2's? graemlins/headscratch.gif

Believe I am onto something. As these were all work extras, and dates from 1953, to 1957, maybe if I extract differently from the paperwork, they should read as:
X1787
X1813
X1845
X3216
Even though some GN steam was still operating in those years, is this perhaps work equipment? If written as I note above, betcha that's what it is....?

1813 was a L-1s 2-6-6-2, 3216 was a O-4 2-8-2, according to old rosters. 1787 and 1845, nothing shows. Now, in my GN color guide for freight and misc. cars, X1787 is close to numbers of the big wrecking derricks. X1813 and X1845 are in between the smaller ones. and X3216 might possibly be an outfit car? More questions than answers, eh?

Yes. Questions aplenty!
These were showing in an old register book. So would have to be some sort of self moving units. Powered derricks, old steamers, ???

Boxcab E50 Hi Boxcab;
Of the numbers you have listed, the only one I can positively identify is X1845 which was a 40 ton capacity crane with a 60 foot boom. This unit is pictured on page 108, Great Northern Equipment Color Pictorial Book Three.
I'm still researching the other numbers. graemlins/headscratch.gif smile.gif

I don't have many GN books. Just a couple by Charles Wood. The Freight Car color Guide. And that softcover by Iconographix. So hope maybe something can be found on the 'Net?
BTW- I see you've been registered a while. But looks like today are your first posts. Welcome To TrainBoard!

I have on order from Overland Models a nscale Little Joe passenger unit (E20) and a freight unit (E77) ... So BC you ain't alone!! :D graemlins/cool.gif

Have you seen the Del Prado EP-2 Bi-Polar static display models you can get from Europe? Really nice, but hard to get. I usually see them on Ebay. It does'nt run, but would be awesome sitting in a station on the next track over!!:cool:
