Here is one more picture from the trip to Helper and beyond. I have also put up a story on Utah Rails if any one is interested.

Hey, another good shot Jim.
I presume this was taken near Nolan tunnels as well. What are they? The Helper helpers?

Hey Ron,

Yes. Just coming out of the tunnel heading west. They are part of the Helper help. There is a semi mis-fit in the bunch now. SP 5412, ex DRGW 5412 is doing duty at the present time. Just think of it being in camo http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif.

Must be nice to take time out to chase the Helper helpers. Hopefully they can last till next spring as a new baby and the RR kept me too busy this summer.

You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful area! Rather different to where I live - dead flat! http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif

And wasn't there some fuel shortage or something out there as well? A strike?

Yup! Last week truckers and farmers blockaded fuel refineries, stopping supplies getting to filling stations, and the country quickly almost ground to a halt.
We are all sick of the high price of petrol (gas), mainly due to the 85% tax on it!!!!
We pay about £4.50 a gallon ($6.50), just a bit more than the US!!
The government are refusing to budge on the tax, but they have been delivered an ultimatum that they have 60 days to react. They have now fallen behind the opposition party in the opinion polls, so this has really hurt them.
We will have to wait and see what happens next. (We still do not have supplies of fuel in our town)

Hi Alan and Jim,
I must agree with you Alan about the scenery around Helper. It is magnificent. And I know exactly what you mean about the "Rolling Hills" of Lindsey. I was in the RAF for 22 years, most of which was spent in and around Lincoln. It got rather embarassing when a "lad" from the south coast used to speak with a Lincolnshire accent.
Jim It is a great photo, I am glad to see that the Rio Grande is still sort of alive.
Oh by the way, how on earth do I get the various smiles icons to appear where I want them on these text messages.
