I'm looking for any pictures that may be available of a K-36 class narrow gauge steam engine, type 2-8-2, series 480 to 489. Pretty specific, huh? A friend of mine was able to get a copy a few years ago of the blueprints of one of these narrow gauge enines, and he's been digitizing them into AutoSketch. He needs some information on the routing of the plumbing around the front of the engine. Each engine was a little different, and the prints don't show these details.

Anybody have some good information out there?

P.S. I've printed out his drawing and it's quite impressive. A lot of time went into it.

You are correct on everyone being different. It is more so on the K37's.

Jim, wow, that is an awesome site for the DRGW 2-8-2's! Just out of curiosity, which one was on display at the bridge above the Royal Gorge, then restored and delivered to either C&TS or D&S, not necessarily in that order? I know I have a picture somewhere. :cool:

OLD 486

Trains contributed greatly to the early development of Colorado and the west. No. 486 was one of the last narrow-gauge locomotives purchased by Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. Built by Baldwin Locomotive works in 1924, it saw service both as a passenger and freight engine throughout southern Colorado and northern New Mexico.

Retired from service in 1963, Old 486 was stored for several years in Alamosa. In 1968 Canon City placed the locomotive on permanent display in Royal Gorge Park.

The drawings I have are marked with 487 on them. It's neat to be able to see both the pictures and the construction drawings at the same time! It's nice to see that people have kept pictures of these old workhorses.

These pictures should help my friend complete his drawings. Thank you everybody for your help!
