Nice shot.
ex Illinois Central SW-1.
Do you know when and where photo was taken. I have never seen a picture of one of the ex-IC's in the bright red and yellow. Thanks for sharing the image.

Darn thing's so clean, I thought it was a model at first! http://www.trainboard.com/eek.gif It's an ex IC unit, I'll be darn. It's cool to see some of the stuff that used to haunt the rails here in Sacred Central Illinois.

Leave it to the Rock Island to buy second hand sw-1's in 1969-1970. Everyone was into SD-40's, GP-38's(The Rocks didnt come until 1976). The Rock Island was purchasing second hand E-8's & 9's and rebuilt F-3's from the UP. Sw-1's from the IC and NW-2's from P&LE. In all fairness they did purchase GP-40's around this time and wound up with some SD-40-2's and U30C's in 1973. It made for some fun train watching but looking back on it I guess we were lucky the railroad lasted as long as it did.
