For anyone who might be attending, there are at least two Milw based layouts which will be part of their tours this year.

One is that of Doug Nighswonger. His empire recreates part of the Coast Division, set in 1952. From the yard at Tacoma, to the Snoqualmie Pass Tunnel. The Enumclaw Line is represented, plus hidden staging for the branches south of Tacoma. DCC. Well planned. It fives an excellent feel for how the area and railroad looked fifty years ago.

As I lived there for most of my first 50 years, I visited Doug many times. For me, his layout has many easily recognized familiar places, and scenes. Which brought back strong memories.

A must see!

Boxcab, I figured I could go if I found about 5 or 6 hundred dollars laying on the sidewalk, so far no luck!!!!

I'll look for that tour Ken, as I got bumped from the N Scale Tour, so I have to pick another. :D

Andy-

I can't find the money either. My guess it that the winds blow it away just before I get there....

Robert-

Can you get on the tour that covers Roy Cutler's layout? Unless he's changed his theme, it was loosely patterned after NP type operations. Also, the PSMRE layout is primarily NP. With some Milw added.

I think I can still get on Roy's tour, but the club layout is sold out except for a Saturday Night behind the scenes tour, or maybe Friday Night. I'll check it out.

Robert-

There are a couple of tours to reach Roy's layout. The one listed as "1300 Wed 4A94L" is the primo trip. It is of four N scale layouts. They should all be good. But Roy's, and also the Onyx Division are jewels. Walt and Pete have superelevations on curves, and some other neat features to see.

Any tour to catch Doug Nighswonger's layout.

Then there is one tour that goes to Olympia. Where the N scale Mud Bay & Southern lives. It has Milw, BN, NP, MB&S, etc.

Guess you'll need a longer trip to see all the neat stuff.

I see that Steve Depolo is now switching scales. AGAIN. He started in Milw. Bought all my HO brass. Then switched to an O scale logging RR. Then On3. Now Sn3! Variety is the spice of life?

The 4A94L is the one I signed up for, that they told me was sold out. I am begging them to add another tour bus, but so far no luck. Maybe someone will be scalping tickets for the N Scale tour? :D

You need to see Ross Sterling's layout in Moses Lake, WA. While not specific to any location, it is a neat O scale layout with working catenary. He has a nice set of boxcabs amongst other things.

Wasn't aware of the layout in Moses Lake. Would be neat to see some pix!

I wonder what ever happened to the Milw brass O scale that Ray Winship had? After he passed away, where did it end up?

I'll ask Ross Sunday.

Ray's mom, Isabel, has not released anything to Ross' knowledge yet. There were some instructions from Ray as to who was to get what, but when will that happen?

Ray had a HUGE treasure trove of goodies. He would go to the swap meet in Spokane and produce these old obscure items that must have been produced decades ago.
He once gave me a metal NW2 shell for a project I had. I think it was a Varney. I had never seen one before.

I sure hope when the time comes, his stuff goes to a good home. I'll agree with you about him having some neat stuff. It would be fun to know what all is hidden away. He'd bring out some nice stuff now and then. He used to come over to the Seattle area for the Boeing Swap.

Back to the original subject...

There is a layout depicting the South Cle Elum depot out there somewhere. Anyone know where, and how far to completion it is?

Dan-

The Cascade Rail Foundation/Friends of the South Cle Elum Depot, has a portable layout representing exactly the scenario you describe. There should be some info on their web site:

I went on the Stampede Pass tour during the convention, and we rode from the King Street Station all the way to Cle Elum where we had a Hay Bale BBQ.

The train left us there and continued east to turn around, then came back to get us about 2-3 hours later. I wonder if South Cle Elum is where the train went to turn? Do they have a Y there? :D

Robert-

Not at South Cle Elum. SCE is a seperate town, on the other side of the Yakima River. Where the Milwaukee Road tracks were. They never had a wye. Pre-electrification, there was a roundhouse, turntable, etc. All tracks are sadly long gone.

Am trying to think of where the closest site is they'd actually be able to turn the train. I don't recall a wye at Eburg. Maybe they just ran around the train? There was a wye at Cle Elum. But it was removed during the early 1990's. It was also the lead to the old NP Roslyn Branch.

Well,
Ross is a friend of mine. I suppose I could invite myself over and get some photos. Sunday perhaps.

Only trouble is I do not have a way to host photos. I could email them, privately, to you 2.

If you have a chance to visit the fellow, graemlins/cool.gif it would be neat to see what he has set up.

For photo hosting, you could get a RailImages account. They're free. Just go to the home page, and follow the Request instructions.

I went on the N Scale tour, so I visited 4 layouts, but I don't remember which if any of those 4 were moses lake?

Anyway I have lots of photo's of those 4 layouts if the N Scale layout tour is what you were looking for.

Probably all the tours you took were in western Washington. However, I would enjoy seeing those pictures! Can you put them up somewhere?

At long last, I'll be visiting Ross' layout tomorrow, camera in hand.

How do I post the images here?

Dan-

If you have a web site available, you can link it. Use either the "URL", or better yet, the "Image" button found right below any "Post A Reply" message box. Right under the words "Instant UBB Code."

If you have no site, you can request a RailImages album. They're free.

Or, I can even upload via my RI album if you send to me.

You might even wish to start the topic as a new thread?
