The next day

Well, I know I was out on October 3rd of 1979. But with a quick search, cannot find photo or slide.

However, I did find a not-so-great photo I took the very next day:

It's noon on October 4th, 1979. This is the Local on the Everett Line track, just about to cross onto the Cedar Falls scale track. They're returning from switching the big Weyerhaeuser Mill in Snoqualmie Falls. This run was a very good money maker for the RR. After scaling the loads, they'll grab orders from the Agent, Jim Irvin, and Extra 298 West will head for Tacoma.

I will need to scrounge further. May have another photo or two.

That rock outcrop above was, still is, a popular hiking destination. That's the east end of what is known as Rattlesnake Ridge. Looking down one had a great view of the rail yard, and Rattlesnake Lake, which is behind the trees beyond the Geep.

I could look in the other directions for fabulous mountain views, and even see the spot where five years later we bought a lot and built a house.

I wonder if that was the engine we saw, running cab hop one day. We were out in the sticks and a GP-9 with a caboose blasted across the road we were headed down and disappeared. We never did find the tracks again, the Milwaukee ones that is. We went on to Cranebrook I think for some Baldwin AS-616 engines.
