Here's a former C&O SD40, now rebuilt to SD40-2 standards for CSX

There is actually one C&O unit left on CSX that still has the blue long hood with C&O on it!

Good ol' 4617. No ditch lights, and hangs around Huntington a lot lately (which could be good or bad!)

Say one of these or maybe more correctly a 40--2 on a BNSF westbound about @ Laguna this morning. Not close enough to be sure.
Darn thinks look real small when coupled into a lashup of C44-8Ws & C40-8Ws.

You are correct...the modern diesels are dwarfing the older units!

Holy moly, Batman! Looks at that Seaboard unit with CSuX on the ends... Haven't seen that before.
The question I have is this (about the original photo):
What are those things mounted low on the trucks? They look like the brake cylinders (which seem to be missing from the tops of the trucks, where they normally are on EMDs) but I'm not sure. I can't figure why they'd mount them that low...
Any ideas?

Welcome to TrainBoard! I guess you are in the right forum... :teeth:
I have seen a few photos of it before, I was just trying to prompt someone to post one of their own if they took 'em.
