I would like to kitbash as N scale version of this loco using a SD40-2 and a SD45 long hood. At first I thought it would be as simple as swaping the long hoods out but now it looks like I will need to shorten the SD45 hood or splice it with the SD40-2 hood. I have not found any good pics yet that give me a good viw of the long hood. Can anyone help with some pictures or mabey a description if you have ever done this yourself.

Kevin, have you tried the BN Archives? Four images there, but all of the same side (right hand).

Also, RR Pictures Archive - http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locopicture.aspx?id=5933
particularly the following for a reasonable left side view -

and our own HemiAdda2d's images - http://www.railimages.com/gallery/BN?page=3

I checked my photos... I don't have one of that unit to offer, however, I do have some of the BN experimental unit that had the fuel tenders...

Well my project to make either BN 6330 or 7023 is not doing so well. I have not been able to find several good photo's of either one. I do have one ok pic of 7023 showing the rear end and it apears that they might have just replaced the radiators with those of a SD45, but I have a feeling they did a bit more so I will keepn looking and hoping to find a few more good pics before I start choping up shells.

Check your library for books... They may have a BN Locomotives book. The library in Minot, ND did.. Your Spokan area library should, or be able to order it from another location.

I have the video, "Marias Pass" from Pentrex, and it shows 6330 twice! Once as the lead unit going east, then trailing heading west.

Hey Kevin, don't give up just yet! I just saw 7023 up close and personal a half hour ago sitting in South Seattle right next to airport way. I was able to stand within 5 feet of her! It appears that the hole hood, from the inertial filters back, was replaced. If you look at pic's of an SD45, they are identical-side access doors, grab irons on the back, I think even the fans on top. Also notice there is no -2 access door on the engineer's side, towards the back of the long hood for the little window to see the electrical panel. I think it's safe to say that you could just use the whole long hood off of an SD-45 and mate it to an SD40-2 cab and rear electrical panel behind the cab and just behind they blower duct on the fireman's side.

Thats an intresting unit, I have been debating if I should do the SD45 with the 4 axle radial truck experiment in HO.

I just saw the 7023 in Spokane last week, however I did not have a camera with me and I did not want to advertise the fact that I am a foamer to all of my co-workers.
