Nice pics!!
Had the chance to climb up into the cab of the E unit when Mom and I were there several years ago.
An incredible collection of stuff!! LOTS of
electrics - street cars, trolleys etc....I gotta go again sometime. Spent 5 1/2 hours wandering around!!

They are very sharp looking units. Good thing they survived. IIRC BN donated them to the museum?

Interesting Story. Apparently (and this is second hand so take with grain of salt) IRM Dirctor of Diesels was at the BN Line railfanning and he got a call from a friend at the BN that just offered him BN 1,2 and 3. And just with that phone call, they got those three.

Well, it is the Illinois Railraod Museum afterall.

??? OK. Hmmm. So I visited their site. Under internal combustion, at a glance, I guess that explains why they have equipment from such Illinois companies as the SP; Louisiana & Arkansas; Frisco; Lehigh & New England; Lake Superior & Ishpeming, Graysonia, Nashville, & Ashdown; J.Neils Lumber Company; etc,.....

Well, I'm sure they branch out, I just mean it's not surprising that they wouldn't have NP/GN stuff. They get what they get and there focus tesnds to be Illionis.

The IRM has a beautiful set up and many departments as you can see. They have some from the east but that was mainly because the Eastern RRs reached Chicago. NP and GN didn't [REACH CHICAGO]with only their crack passenger trains on the CB&Q. Not to mention, they do just about take donations from just about anywhere. (If they can get them to Union Il)

Wasn't there a fair volume of NP and GN originated freight, handled via, (what was for all purposes and intents, a subsidiary), the CB&Q, into Chicago? I've seen a lot of video footage showing quite a bit of GN and NP in and around Chicago. The CB&Q main, east of the Twin Cities, was essentially operated like an extension of GN and NP...... CB&Q soliciting traffic destined for the Pacific NW. And vice versa.

Many operating museums try to also acquire a smattering of cars representing interchanged traffic. Which is why I'd inquired.

:D

There was quite a bit, but the CB&Q ran only their power in Illinois (as far as I can see), however, every rule has an exception and this is no exception, Train 97, which was a New York-Seattle (NYC-CBQ-GN Routing) had at various times NYC and GN power along the CBQ. There were a couple trains that had a Chicago-??? Routing over the CBQ-UP and there was quite a bit of runthrough power there.
