C&S engines

Right before I went to boot camp in September a buddy of mine and I were doing some fanning around Seattle, anyways a train came into Interbay and one of the engines was a BN SD40-2 that still was sublettered for the Colorado and Southern. Did i see a one of a kind or are there a few of these still out there?

Are you sure it was a Dash-2? The reason I ask is that while the C&S had some SD40s, the Dash-2s didn't come out until later. I'm not saying it's impossible because after the merger some former GN and I'm sure other precussor road units were assigned C&S numbers, I assume to replace wrecked lease units. I'm not sure how long this practice went on. To answer your question, C&S power is pretty much unheard of in this day and age. I see C&S cars once in a great while, but never power.

They were Dash 2's. BN did not drop C&S or the FW&Das a subsidary until 1980 I think. They had about 40 or more SD40-2's sublettered for them. Anyways it was a BN Green SD40-2 with C&S sub letters.

According to Charles McDonald's Diesel Locomotive Rosters, the C&S owned 152 SD40-2's before it was merged December 31, 1981. The FW&D didn't own any SD40-2's, unless some of the C&S units were transferred before it (the FW&D) was merged January 1, 1983. Hmm.. does anybody know for sure when BN moved it's offices from St. Paul to Fort Worth?

Cthippo, I only know of 1 SD40 left in the BNSF system In fact it is setting right in the yard right here in Galesburg, IL. Being used as a switcher and it labeled as an SD40. It right at home with all the SD39's used for yard service.
