Anyone have a good history book? Am looking for a specific absorption date.
The Boston & Lowell RR was leased by the B&M on January 1, 1887. Supposedly, it's operations were absorbed into the B&M "three months later." Which puts us in April of 1887. But, what day?
We sure miss you, Gil!

I thought I could find some info in some of the books I have, but no dice....Sorry. :(
Various B&M documents and photos were still referencing the Boston & Lowell as a independent "cultural" entity as late as the 40's and early 50's, so it's hard to pin down when the B&L actually lost its "corporate" identity on paper.
Why don't you try the B&M Historical Society Forum (http://www.network54.com/Forum/43027)?

Hank-
Keeping those corporate identities alive can be rather confusing at times. Such as on the UP. The O-WR&N was merged into the UP in 1936. As was the OSL. Or so I'd thought for years. Turns out they still existed into the 1980's. They still owned all the property, buildings, etc. Turns out it was just their RR operations UP took over. Tax purposes I'd suppose. Anyhow, they were finally actually merged in the 1980's.
Going via the B&M site you'd suggested, I located an e-mail for one of the B&MHS officers. Dropped him an e-mail. Will see what I hear back.

Rats! It's been a month. No response. That's discouraging!

I'm really bummed. Three months later, and nobody from B&MHS will respond.

Boxcab E50 That's a real shame. Did you post on the Forum, or just e-mail? Forum posts are generally answered from what I've seen over the years.

Hank-
I e-mailed several people directly. Hope I wasn't somehow filtered out. Thought perhaps someone would simply have access to a good history book.
Hope it's not another instance of "volunteer" syndrome.
Have also recently had the same experience, seeking some Erie RR info. Fortunately, for this latter data, a couple people here on TrainBoard were helpful!

You might try posting your question directly onto the forum with very specific phrasing to avoid any ambiguity. A passing reader may have some information. Just a thought... smile.gif
