I was finally getting caught up on some reading this morning and turned to page 86 and 87 in the February Trains magazine. Wow. blast from the past. I knew right where it was without reading the caption. In the early 60's my buddies and I used to play hocky on that pond in the winter. The trestle was one of the goals. :D By then the steam was all gone but there were still Alco RS diesels that would haul a few loads through Milford up to Wilton every day.

This brings back memories for me. We had a couple of lumber mill ponds that would freeze. Hockey, skating, and general mischief..... Up on a nearby hillside, was the Northern Pacific branch line.

I need a time machine....

There was a pond hard against B&M's Fitchburg Division just north of Petersburg Jct, NY where many pickup hockey games were played. The games were great, but the 2-1/2 mile walk down the tracks from Hoosick Station was even better.

We had three tracks over which to dodge heavy freight (FT's and F3's) traffic - eastbound, westbound, and a three-mile long siding in the middle with many set off hot boxes and a tri-weekly local (steam) freight that picked them up.
