Ok fellas, I've now got a few pics of U36Bs in Seaboard System livery but can anyone tell me what gray to use  I prefer to use Floquil paint. Thanks,
John

The actual color for that is called French Gray. Now, you can use Floquil reefer gray I think it is as you base for that color. However, you need to add a drop or two of a dark blue to it as well, that is per spray bottle..The acl & SAL H.S. used to have that color available as a custom color done for them by Pro-Color. Years ago when I was a BOD member with the society I had that color done as well as several others. I don't know if they still have it stock though. You may want to check their website, http://aclsal.org to see if they do. Now, another option would be to have some custom mixed for you at your local paint shop. Here is the paint information, DUPONT 939-Y-6334. Take that code to any decent DuPont jobber and they can mix you some up. You will probably have to buy a pint of it but you can thin it with laquer thinner and you will have a life time supply of that color. I did this with ALL of the Seaboard Air Line colors...I will never run out and my models are painted with the ACTUAL SAL colors...No fudging there.

I hope that this information has helped you out.

Denis,
thanks for the great info. Very cool stuff. Unfortunately I'm only doing two N scale units and don't need that much paint. I was wondering if maybe my usual....oh God I didn't say it!!...SP Lark Dark Gray could be a decent substitute?? Um...Sir...Please put the gun down...I didn't mean it...
thanks :D

First off, there is nothing wrong with the SP, it is what took them over that stinks..Now, we have that out of the way.

You know, that is actually a bit to dark. Here is a solution. Use CSX gray. Not exactly 100% correct but most certainly close enough. That is what I would do being that you are only doing two units..
