While railfanning today, I followed the former line out of Wilmington, N.C. north. I can tell that the trackage has been pulled up from below Burgaw, N.C. north past Wallace, N.C. Signs on the right of way now indicate this right-of-way is owned by the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation.
My questions are: 1) when were these tracks taken up and 2) since the state proclaims to own the property, does anyone know of plans to re-establish this line? The power stationed at Warsaw, N.C this morning was an SD50 and C40-8... not GP38-2's or 40's, as in prior years.

P.S. I did take pics of the old stations in Burgaw and Wallace, however, the stations are not in good shape. The former stations at any other towns along the line have long since been demolished.
