Hello All,

Does anybody know if there was a Observation-Sleeper Car on the Chief in
1953-1955. If there were, where can I find
this cars' floorplan.

Also, was there ever a car on the Chief called
a "pleasure Doom? Same time frame.

Any Info is appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff Shriver

A good source of info is the Santa Fe Historical & Modelling Society pages, this link should take you to their "passenger trains" link page. The red links are pages on their site and the black link to others out there.

I believe the Santa Fe's 500 series dome cars were nicknamed "Pleasure Dome's", this page has a bit of history on them:

That last page was from Web-lurkers DOME main, which is quite an amazing resource on dome cars from all railroads.

Check "A Quarter Century of Santa Fe Consists" by Fred Fraily for info on those cars. It seems as though there were different car types(but mostly obs.) used depending on the time of year & even day of the week. It's out of print but maybe you can get one thru interlibrary loan at your local library.
