On May 10, 1869 (135 Years ago) the "Golden Spike" was placed linking the East to the West via the railroad. Here is just one of the images from a trip I took a few years ago to this historic site

And 135 years later, there are still people constantly, incorrectly referring to this site as "Promontory Point." graemlins/226.gif

From this location, you can take the Promontory Trail Auto Tour that is also
maintain by the Nation Park Service - Golden Spike Activities (http://www.nps.gov/gosp/pphtml/activities.html) rangers where
you will drive along the old RR bed and see many of the roadbed works

The map lists a Flag Pole on Telegraph Pole which they have
also maintain with a US flag of that era.
