I was reading a recent article in The Railroad Press...about how railfans can be compared to historians (paraphrasing). Since we take or have taken pics of events, places etc..that will not be repeated again..or no longer exist today. We are fortunate to document such events, passings etc...with our cameras and share with others. I have always been reminded when it comes to RR property , such as signs, buildings and other equipment to take pics of them, since the next time you are by there, it might be gone.
So with that being said...I took this pic...circa 1981...(not the greatest scan). The water tower is long gone.. . Taken just outside Edwards AFB in California.

Perhaps you'd know the answer to this- Wasn't Edwards originally known as "Muroc?" Didn't the AT&SF have a station named Muroc? Am thinking that this photo was taken at the exact same place. Just renamed at one time?

Not too long ago a person doing a museum type historical display ( permenant) was asking for any older photos of the local railroad and industrial operations from the past. I guess that kind of proves the writers point.

Boxcab you're right before the Air Force became the "Air Force" in the late 40's, Edwards was known as Muroc Field or Muroc Air Base. Not to bore others..but the name Muroc is the name (reversed) of the original settlers in the area the Corum family. I am sure the siding probably was also named the same at one time. My understanding is the water line is still in place there that filled the water tank. Last years Ringling Bros Circus train, stopped there on the way up the Valley to refill it's water for their animals.

This is VERY, VERY TRUE and why I push those that have any photograph of D&H equipment to let me post them within the DHVM. I always tell people that their one simple photograph might be the only existing picture of that piece of equipment so who cares if it's blury, etc.; IT'S HISTORY that others would enjoy seeing someday so why not now while youstill know something about it that can be included.
