How is engineer DA doing? Is he tired, yet?

Don Rickle
March 30th, 2004, 10:37 AM
He never said he was tired, I guess I took advantage of him because I never offered to run or ask if he needed a break. He had plenty of breaks though...we get plenty of breaks on these lowly manifest trains.

That almost looks like a train order signal at Joliet. (Behind the railfans.) Does the IC(CN) still operate through that area?

:D

IC (CN) tracks are the two sets to the right. Past the tower they diverge to the right. Galesburg BNSF crews deliver a train to the CN's (IC's) Glenn Yard near /Chicago. Past the tower we "hang a right" onto the CN tracks for about 20 miles or so up the CN to Glenn Yard.

Don,

Thanks for posting this topic its an excellent insight for us guys. Is that a SD40-2 you were operating?

don this is cool i railfan in the coal city area sometimes, a good friend of mine, les cisco lives in morris and has two ntrak modules of the coal city/ pequot interlocking and is also doing downtown streator. we have spent several hours in the joliet area especially arsennal road and also have been in the new yard.

The interlocking at Pequot was with the Chicago and Alton and the Santa Fe. It has been in existance since the 1880's and was controlled by C&A originally. It's kind of sad to see the plant without the searchlight signals.
I hope to record the removal of the signal bridge at 5th Ave. Hope to see more pics in the future.

Yes Colonel it is. BNSF 7328. I think it came from the CN, someone here could probably tell you, I stopped "keeping up" on the BNSF roster a few years ago.

Mr Pequot, get your shots of all the search lights soon, they have been replacing several from Chicago to Kansas City. I bet its just a matter of time until the classic cantilevers come down.

Some cool shots there, liked the bridges, not an angle most folk normally get to see!

Interesting looking at Joliet from the other side of the glass as well, I've stood there looking the other way! smile.gif

Mr. Mopac, you know that I keep taking my camera to the shows and I never even get it out of the case. All of the shots I have were before the recent scenery remodelling. Hey Don, how often do you get on the old Santa Fe and could you get me a couple of shots going across the Vermilion River and Station areas of Streator? I also have NTRAK modules of that location as well.

how often do you get on the old Santa Fe Six days a week now. I'm working the Galesburg-Hodkins(Willow Springs) local. Depart Galesburg Tues. Thurs. Sat. Depart Hodkins GM yard Wed. Fri. Sun. I'll be up there today. I'll try to sneak a few pics without my conductor seeing as I'm closet railfan at work. Some railroaders don't understand the whole picture taking thing. ;)

Mr Pequot, I have the pics you requested, although I ran into a problem getting them from the camera to my PC. Look for them on Thursday.

Sounds great. If you prefer, we could continue this off line.
