Thanks for the kind comments. I had to post this one because I'm headed to Tehachapi in a couple of weeks for the first time. I know the red and silver is getting hard to find, but just the name, "Santa Fe" has been running through my mind.
As for the shot, it was taken with a "normal" 50mm lens in October of 1996.

I suspect you'll be lucky finding Dash 9 "survivors" running across Tehachapi. I was a few weeks ago.

If this is your first time, you might want to keep in mind that there's a better pure train photography spot just below the actual loop (Walong siding). It's downhill a couple of miles or so, to the right. You get the sun from behind you there.

Getting the Loop in its entirety is a challenge photographically, because it is huge. If you get it all in, the trains become a very small part of the picture. To get the whole loop, you might want to consider climbing to the top of the hill.

Also, there are two other good spots close by, Bealville and Caliente. Make time to go there too. (I didn't and I regret that.)

I've been doing a lot of research on the area and plan on trying to get as many angles of the area as I can. Believe it or not, I find the rest of the line of MORE interest than the loop itself. Maybe it's because the loop has been so over publisized. It is my first time out there and we'll be spending at least 4 days on the pass. I'm certainly not going to ignore the loop, but I'm not parking my butt there either.
Flight departs sunday morning! I'll post anything I feel "fit" when get back.
