A newsletter has been sent to RailImages.com members. It is also being posted here for those interested to read or for those using EarthLink spam blocker who cannot receive e-mail from us.
----------------------------------------

Greetings,

1) We are having some technical problems with the site and you may notice what appears to be some gibberish at the top of the pages that looks like this:

Warning: session_start(): open(/tmp/sess_8d739cf0c70831926623c0bb11bdc9d4, O_RDWR) failed: Input/output error (5) in /home/hdnghtiu/public_html/gallery/session.php on line 60

When that happens, you probably will not be able to log in for a brief period of time. The problem appears to heal itself within minutes but recurs at random intervals.

We are working to solve this problem. It has been a bit tough as the problem just cropped up for no known reason but we should have this figured out soon.

We apologize for the annoyance that this causes.

2) We want to THANK everyone who has donated to the site. We have now received donations from over 40 members and many of you have donated more than once.

Some folks have donated over $100 while we have also received donations less than $5. If less than $5 is what you can afford then we greatly appreciate that donation. One person donated $3 and said he was sorry to make such a small donation but that $3 helps us pay our bills and it paid for his space on the site!

Another gentleman told us he received a nice Christmas bonus this year so he donated $100 to the site. That means a lot that someone would take the time and effort to do that and when that happens, we know we will be around for a while!

We are NOT in danger of closing the site down at this time but we do use loads of bandwidth and disk space and it takes funds to keep it going.

3) You also support RailImages when you click over to our advertisers sites:

- InternetTrains.com (Model Railroad)
- Pentrex (DVD's, videos, books)
- Diesel Era (Magazine)
- Extra2200 South (Magazine)

These folks are supporting RailImages and they are QUALITY advertisers with products we all love. It's great to have advertisers that are railroad related and not off-topic stuff like you find at some sites.

I subscribe to both Diesel Era and Extra 2200 South. I buy my model supplies from InternetTrains.com, and I am addicted to DVD's from Pentrex. (I usually have a Pentrex DVD going all the time around my house!)

Their ads are on every page of RailImages.com and if you just click over to these sites, you'll find it worth your time.

4) We have something new for folks who contribute $20 or more (annually) to the site.

- The first feature that we will offer anyone that contributes $20 is the ability to create "sub-albums". You might want an album for you model railroading photos and another for your railfan photos. You might want an album for that railfan trip you took last month. If you are a $20 contributor, we will enable the ability for you to create sub-albums in your account.

- Second, we can offer you a sub-domain. For example, the URL to my album is http://www.railimages.com/gallery/charliedix but if you go to http://frisco.railimages.com it also goes to my album. We will allow you to choose your sub-domain name (http://YOURCHOICE.railimages.com). There cannot be any spaces in your choice and it must be something that is not in use by someone else. You might want to choose your favorite railroad or the name of you model railroad. As most people like to include the URL of their RailImages album in their signature on the various message board sites, the sub-domain is a bit more impressive and personal than the standard URL.

Both of these features are retroactive to folks who have contributed $20 to the site. The only stipulation is that you must ASK to have these features enabled on your site. Paul will set up the ability to create sub-albums and I (Charlie) will set up your sub-domain. (Please give us a couple of days to do that for you after asking.)

5) USER NAMES AND ALBUM NAMES: Please note that users are not allowed to change their USER NAMES or ALBUM NAMES. If you name is John Doe, your USER NAME is "JohnDoe" (no spaces) and your ALBUM NAME is "John Doe." We need to maintain this protocol to be able to keep track of users and associated albums. Using your real name will be important regarding potential copyright issues, etc.

We've had a few folks change these things in their profile and we ask that you don't do that.

Thank you! We appreciate your participation at RailImages.com!
