This will be a weekly event where exceptional albums from the Rail Images gallery will be displayed.

The inaugural album goes to Peter Nolan with his excellent modelling photographs.

Here is just one of the brilliant examples, click on the link below to take you to his album. Any coments here and in Peters album would be much appreciated.

Excellent choice. This sets a high standard for all of us, no matter whether we photograph models or prototypes.

Pete's handy work is quite impressive and he inspires me to try harder in both my modeling and photography. It is a great tribute to him that his was chosen as the first highlighted album. graemlins/notworthy.gif graemlins/clappy.gif

I have personally seen his layout, and ran my Great Dome Empire Builder over it, too!
It is simply incredible! Pete's bridges are awesome! So is the Plutonium plant! :D

Thanks, folks!

Due to work pressures, I've had to limit my participation in forums lately. I really appreciate RailImages, and the chance to show some of my photos. Some of you know that I started as a photographer back in the 60s, then got diverted into writing for 30 years, and just really got back into photography with the digital revolution. The "pain" of shooting most of these shots convinced me to go digital! Unfortunately, my D100's flash tube blew in Alaska and the body is now out for repairs for another 2 to 4 weeks graemlins/Boo.gif , and I don't want to go back to film.

The new layout should be even better! Except I may have to switch to the Alaska RR with all the spectacular scenery I can use for backgrounds.

Welcome aboard, Pete!
As for modeling the AKRR, what about all that cool Pennsy stuff? graemlins/headscratch.gif

hemi,

Thanks for your kind comments!

As for switching to ARR, well, it's either a lot of painting or, more likely, a photo trip back East. I've always had a great time in Pittsburgh.

Of all things I need right now, a publisher saw about 60 pages of my Alaska book, and wants me to go back and "finish the state." I told her that would take a few years, after I finish my "backlog" of a few years.

Welcome Pete. We're glad to have you (as we are any new member).

Your photos are great. That's the real reason for RailImages - to be able to enjoy free time looking at great pictures such as yours.

Thanks, Paul and Charlie!

One of the things I'd like from visitors to the album is an eagle eye for my mistakes. The editors of model railroading magazines certainly seem to have eagle eyes. Honest critiques are the only way I can improve.

I know my ballasting wasn't up to snuff on this layout; that I don't have correct Pennsy details, such as train phones; and that cars may not match up with the era. I'm just not a stickler about those things--my model RR is my empire, and sometimes I just don't have time nor interest in prototypical correctness.

But I'd love to hear suggestions, corrections, etc. I know some people fear offering their corrections lest they be accused of trashing something. After 35 years in the business, nothing could ever offend me, or be construed as trashing.

So, Trainboard members, offer your comments! I'll watch the album, and respond when I can.

Pete,
Keep up the great work. And you are correct--it is YOUR empire!! Do as YOU like and if others don't like it, then too bad. I believe in and practice the GE credo--Good Enough!! If I like it, then it is good enough. Keep the pictures coming.
