Due to popular demand of our rail images site we have imposed a 100kb limit to uploading files.
As mentioned in our policy statement it is prefered files are modified to less than 100k to ensure we do not use all our available web space.
remeber the smaller the files that are uploaded to more space available to display pictures.

Great point, Paul. Most sites have similar (and smaller) file size restrictions. Besides web space, an important consideration is "load time" of the images... larger images take longer to load. I never thought too much about it, since I have high speed Internet access at work and home, however, I have been traveling a lot lately, which means dialup from motel rooms (usually thru their poor phone network). The difference is astonishing! I guess that leaves me out. No mater what I do, I can not get my jpg files below 195 kb and most are around 250 kb. Besides, this morning I tried for 1 1/2 to post a photo and got rejected. So GOOD BY graemlins/wah.gif graemlins/wah.gif

Jim. Thanks anyway but it wouldn't do any good as Railimage won't let me upload any photos. I filled out the spaces the way I think it should be and get rejected

My digital images start out arond 1000kb each ( 1mb) and it usually takes several tries to get it to the "just right" size.

Dick, the reason they are rejected is because of the file size. Please send me one and I will return it to you smaller, and I'll bet you it will upload ok. Let's see, what should that bet be in $$, or maybe beers? :D

Dick,
at the bottom of the upload page an error report will be generated. can you inform me what error your are getting. To reduce the size of a jpeg file is quite easy let me know what program you are using to edit pictures and I will tell you how.
