According to railfan reports as well as photos taken in Canada, quite a few unpainted SD70MACesare showing up DIT in their way to Mid-American Car in Kansas City and CEECO in the Pacific Northwest. These should be part of the order that KSC put in sometime back- expect them to show up on the property by the end of December.

No idea as to paint scheme, but my guess is the usual gray with yellow lettering.

I had heard that there were some sightings of new KCS unpainted units, but no photos to support the contention... :(

OK. That link works.

Maybe it's the way the lettering sits on their sides. But somehow, they look even larger than what I'm used to seeing, of that particular model. Perhaps they need to paint a larger KCS?

:D

Looks to be the same size lettering as on the AC4400Ws. Overall, I like how they turned out.

I need to make a trip to Heavener to catch the "Big Aces" on Rich Mountain.......and it ain't that far from where I live, or where my daughter and granddaughter live (shoot trains, spoil grandkids- great combo).

Thanx for the corrected URL!

I look at the "Big Aces" and wonder just what one of these would look like in the old KCS passenger scheme....... graemlins/088.gif

According to equipment traces, several of the Big Aces are already on the property. IIRC, a post in the Yahoo! group KCSNotes mentions at least one is being kept at Heavener for helper service over Rich Mountain.

I think #4000 & 4001 were on the ready track at the gate, waiting for Tacoma Rail to pick 'em up. graemlins/wink.gif

I know I'm ignorant, but what are yet-to-be-delivered KCS locos doing out in the Pacific Northwest? I mean, weren't they built by EMD in La Grange, IL, or near Toronto, Ont, and doesn't KCS have interchanges with various eastern roads at Meridian, MS, KC, and other locations that are a little more convenient than Tacoma, WA?

Uh, Help Me.......

They come from London, Ontario,Canada with hardly any stops enroute, and then straight to CEECO for painting which probably bid the lowest!

That must have been a VERY low bid to offset a 3000-4000 mile round trip just for painting....unless KCS was able to have BNSF pay for using this power in both directions. graemlins/wink.gif
