KCS Officially Gobbles Up Gateway Western Today
Author: TO News from KCS
Today, July 1, the Gateway Western Railway (GWWR) markings will be officially
consolidated into one
KCS identity, after months of complex accounting and information technology
preparation. While the
consolidation will be virtually transparent to customers, and have only minor
implications for
employees, it will streamline basic processes and improve operating
efficiencies.
Transportation and customer service employees, who previously logged onto MCS
separately for KCS and
GWWR, will now find all activity in KCS MCS. The preparation completed by
revenue and car accounting
and the information technology group will affect all areas as follows:
The GWWR standard carrier alpha code (SCAC) will be eliminated from bills of
lading, service
requests and waybills dated July 1st and after.
GWWR routings and events will be replaced or consolidated with KCS.
All rates, routes, divisions, tariffs, contracts, and agreements held by GWWR
are adopted by KCS
effective July 1, unless canceled.
At midnight on June 30, all GWWR equipment inventory will be interchanged to
KCS, and all active,
pending or suspended GWWR routed waybills will be transferred to KCS systems to
complete service as
KCS. After this, GWWR MCS systems will only be available for inquiry and
reference.
Corporate Master and Industry Reference files have been expired, updated or
translated, either
mechanically or manually, to support GWWR traffic as KCS traffic after June 30,
according to planned
business rules, tariffs and notices.
GWWR routed waybills and car movement events dated June 30 and prior will
continue to be processed
to completion through GWWR revenue and car accounting systems. This includes,
but is not limited to
car hire, revenue recognition, price applications, interline and haulage
settlement, freight
billing, demurrage, switching, collections and cash applications.
Beginning with the July service month, all car hire claims, switching
exceptions and overcharge or
railroad claims against months prior to the consolidation will be processed as
KCS.
The Class III, Gateway Eastern Railway, operating in East St. Louis, Ill.
remains unaffected by the
consolidation.
