I went to my ISP's Support blokes house last night with my machine to get some .. stuff..
anyway I told him I thought my connections were slow..

He said I bet your using IE 5.5.. I was using 5.5 with service pack... He uninstalled IE 5.5 and its now back to IE 5.01x and its 5 times as fast... It really is the dogs bollocks now!

He said that everyone that he shows that to sticks with 5.0x..

hope this helps someone out!

Fascinating, I use 5.5 and find it works as well as 5.0 when I had that. Now I don't know where I could go to get 5.0 back again as the MS update only has the 5.5 that I can find anyway. Any other places to go? I would like to check out to see if I get the same results you do VB

No speed differnce noticed here. Strange, Maybe its because I am using Win ME with it.

Robin,

I went through this a few weeks ago. As per speed, you got me there. When you delete IE 5.5, it reverts back to the original IE that was first installed. In my case that is IE 4x. Then when you go to the updates on MS, it only shows 5.0 and 5.1 with the related updates. If you want to go back to 5.5, is is in a different location on the site. Back to the speed thing. When I was on dial-up, my max connection was 24K if I was lucky. It is called bad phone lines in my area. I am now on MMDS BroadBand. That is the new wireless type and I love it. No phone lines or cable companys in my area.

TO uninstall 5.5

clivk START ->> SETTINGS->> CONTROL PANEL.
in there you will see a button ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.

select this and go down the list until you see INTERNET EXPLORER 5.5 and INTERNET TOOLS.
then remove.

it will pop up with a few questions.
First one is REVERT BACK TO PREVIOUS VERSION?

IT should be selected, say yes, then follow your nose to the end. Reboot and away ya go now.
