a quick question, how do I upload my web site files to a disc or CD? I can't figure it out.

My first question is - do you have a CD write/burner?
From what you have asked, I am assuming you want to create an off-site back-up of your site files.
Obviously, you have three options here - hard drive, floppies (shudder http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif) or a CD writer.
Personally, I have my site files laid out on my HD much like I have on the server. If I choose, I can create new folders and download the contents of the site onto my HD using a FTP program like WS-FTP-LE (available as freeware from www.tucows.com). (http://www.tucows.com).)
From there I would use the software that came with the CD-R/RW (writer or burner), or similar, to create the CD-ROM. BTW, an excellent CD-R/RW is Ricoh's MP7063 which handles the creation of both CD-ROM's and CD-RW's (re-writable CD's). I do recommend using CD-RW's for this task as the website is always changing and these are re-usable. Saves much drink coaster creation. http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif
Hope this is of help. If you have further questions feel free to ask! http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif

Thanks... but I was kinda looking for how to go about doing the actual downloading/uploading to get it to my cd-rw or floppy. I haven't been able to find the right tools in any of the pull down menu's.
which buttons/mouseclicks etc... do I push ?

If you don't have your site in HTML on your HD, just pull up your site, page by page and click on View, Source and save the window, File, save or save as, select My Documents and go from there.
As I have to use FTP for all of my site up and downloads, I save every page as HTML on my HD. When I bring the page up in my editor, it is in HTML or if I click on the saved file, it is brought up in my browser as a site page.
Are you really confused now http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif.

LOL no I'm not confused, I have been building my website with webtv, my domain host has an in house text editor, I ftp all images to it from my webtv "pagebuilder" tool. I have heard that it is a good idea to keep copies of your site files on a disc (or cd) just in case. My host has 3-way backup, but I've been burnt once by another, soooo..
after I have them on my cd or disc, how do I put them on my host server?... it has a place to upload files from browser...
Thanks you guys, I have another question, I have looked all over for the place where you can enable javascript, enable/disable cookies etc. where is that?

I am not familiar with WebTV so can't really help you there. Yes, it is a very good idea to save your site files. I learned that when I had to move my site twice in one month. With over 100 pages plus all the other junk, not fun when you do not have it on your HD in the proper format.
Java, cookies and etc. With IE, click on Tools, click on Internet Options, click on Advanced and check the boxes you want. Then click on Apply, then OK.

Hi espee2, I keep all files for my web site on a zip drive. The zip disk holds 100mb. I do all the updating and maintenance on the zip drive files then upload them to the host with a ftp program. Sounds like webtv has its own in-house ftp system. Zip drives aren't cheap so a cd burner is an option but I haven't used one. I like the zip drive because it is easy to create additional files and to delete files as well. I don't know if you can do that with a cd burner.
The other question you have about enabling javascripts and enable/disable cookies can usually be done by going to the options section of the browser you are using. This allows you to customize your preferences. I find it in the "tools" section on my browser. Does webtv offer that to you?

Hi Robin, actually, webtv only offers a "pagebuilder" option... I learned html because their "choose an item" method took allot of tweeking to get pages to look as you wanted. I later went to geocities and built my pages from scratch, (no html software) and later I got my own domain, in which my host has its own editor, which was needed because ftp took too long, and uploading wasn't an option.(no hard drive space on webtv)
I used www.transloader.com (http://transloader.com) to ftp my images, etc.webtv only offered "video capture" to get my images on the web... hence the poor quality of my pics.
Now I have a new toy, and I figured out last night how to up/download files to my floppy and my CD-RW, and back to my host server. and I have an awesome monitor and hate my pictures now... as I can see the poor quality I couldn't on a tv screen. I will be re-building my site with fresh new pics some day, I have close to or over 30 pages to manage so it will take awhile. Thanks all and I will need lots of help so bear with me

Your best bet is to have a mirror site or 2! A copy of your site onto a Geocities or Xoom etc site... This way if one dies you can copy from one to the other.. etc..
WEBTV when I was in the USA was just a SMALL remote Keyboard that uses a on top of tele box to connect to the net via a phone line and ISP. Like a Dumb Terminal..
No hard drive, no floppy, no CD Drive, no mouse etc etc.. just a keyboard! Is it still the same?

Hi Virtual Bird. I have a geocities account, but don't want to go against their TOS with a mirror, besides, too much work updating over 30 pages twice.
webtv is pretty cool, although I haven't turned it on in three days http://www.trainboard.com/biggrin.gif ... I am learning every day...adobe photo delux is cool, I figured it out finally (getting a photo back in my files as a jpeg was a mystery solved)I like the email on webtv better, server side anti virus, no spam, no tons of junk mail, great full graphic sigs, only draw back in no way to open a text file like ms word..etc.

You dont think that out of the 123456789101112 geo accounts that there are not a load of mirrors???
I would stick with the Geocities one.. The other thing is you only have to upload it to the Geo mirror when you make large changes. Mainly use it for storage...?
If you do get a puter and scrap the webtv then you only have to download it to your puter..
as for the copying, if webtv has no drives how do you copy it to a floppy? CD Burner or anything?
Dont forget that any server/isp worth crap would backup everything daily, and you could get it back from them..
but then if your ISP gets broken into and EVERY SERVER AND NETWORK item got stolen like mine did when they moved, then your in poop..
