Following on from Slimjim's topic, I too am a dummy regarding html. I am very interested in learning how to do it, and wonder what software you experts use, and what advice can you give us dummies http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif

Also, what server is a good one to use, without too much advertising! (And free!!)

Alan,
There are several software packages you can use. I use microsoft frontpage which i find to be very simple to use although it tends to put a lot of code that is unnecessary. I also use notepad at times to change the code. It is not as difficult as it seems. What you can also do is take a look at a site you like then view sourde with your browser this will show you how the page was written

Alan,
I use First Page 2000, an Aussie product that is really as novice or expert (in 4 steps) as you like. It does it all and has a good interface. It is a free download of just over 4 Meg from http://www.tucows.com in the HTML tools section. As you get used to using it, you can change the interface towards the expert settings. It does just about anything you would find on a page anywhere. Their site - http://www.evrsoft.com/1stpage/ for a run-down on it's capabilities.

I didn't use any web creation software other than Front Page Express and note pad that come with MS explorer. I picked up enough html code from a great book called "Create Amazing Web Pages with html" produced by Maran Graphics. Visit them at http://www.maran.com
This book made it easy and was well worth the $26.95 Canadian dollars.

I spent the $$$'s and bought MS Front Page 2000. I had basically no HTML experience and already have a large site up. I have been learning as I go and need to make some adjustments; but, it's works!!!!!!!

Thanks all, I now have some downloading and studying to do. http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif

The only html I have done, was the secure form for my website credit card details - it worked after the tenth try!!

How about a good (free) site space provider? What is xoom like? Matt says it is very slow!?

for a site that offers free webpages and limited advertising try

www.blazingcomet.com (http://www.blazingcomet.com)

It has some great features including website monitoring where it tells you how many hits and where people are coming from to look at your site.

front page.... although it tends to put a lot of code that is unnecessary.

HUGE AMOUNTS of extra...

try Homesite.. simple.. or HOTDOG. They dont come any easier!

I use Notepad, and code myself.
If you like something on someones page, VIEW the source and pinch the code!
