A few days ago I saw a LMSX unit that was RENUMBERED to CSX #0701 I know that #701 is an SD70MAC I hears that CSX was buying some power from other leasing companies and EMD Leasing. I have not heard anything about LMS How many are Renumbered for CSX? I have a model of #728 and want to update it with weathering and I need to know, Is #728 now CSX #0728 ???

I doubt it, but anything is possible! I photographed LMSX 700 pulling a track train today (see separate topic). Here is a photo of the LMSX 700: http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/images/LMSX700.jpg
as well as this one: http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/images/LMSX700a.jpg

The units were sublettered "LMSX" not CSXT, so I'd have to guess they were still on lease; I doubt CSX would disrupt the SD70 series already in progress.

Of course, it could be a Conrail practice holdover http://www.trainboard.com/redface.gif I think Conrail did a similar trick on their roster with some units in the 7 or 800 series; they put a "0" in front of the number to make them "unique". The LMS units were built to Conrail specs; I think it was their intention to corner the lease market and win big http://www.trainboard.com/wink.gif

Hi Adam, and welcome to the forum!

In response to your question, no the cab numbers were white; I am not sure who exactly owns these units. I still think they hold an independent lease status, as the cabs were sublettered LMSX also.

"0701" was numbered unlike most ex-conrail units I've ever seen. the 0 in front of the 701 was in CSX stle Numbers and in yellow compared to the white conrail-ish style numbers.

Wes has a great site filled with CR, NS, and CSX locos. Here's a shot that shows LSMX 702, no "0" either:
