We recently went to the Belgian Ardennes, to ride steam trains on the Vennbahn, and the Chemin de Fer a Vapeur des Trois Vallees (Three Valleys Steam Railway).
On the Vennbahn, we had a 'Kreigslok' 2-10-0, and during the return run to Raeren, a tree was blocking the line. So a rope was attached to the tree and the locomotive, which then backed up and the tree was pulled free, then cut up to clear the line. As there was no wind, it was assumed that this was sabotage!
On the CFV3V we were hauled by a 2-6-0T which was in superb condition. During the journey, the conductor, who spoke no English, made us understand that any photographers who wished, could go up into the guard's 'cupola' atop the coach next to the locomotive, to get some unusual shots! Several of us took the opportunity to do so, despite the ingress of smoke http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif
At Treignes, the new museum houses a good collection of preserved steam, diesel and electric locomotives, all in very good condition.
This line is well worth a visit, and I will certainly try to go back for more http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif
Pictures from the trip shortly.
