took this photograph last week of Rail Infrastructures (My employer) new paint scheme.

Pictured is a 48 class (Alco) used for maintenance works on the rail network in New South Wales.

The locomotive was doing switching duties at Chullora where spoil trains are stored

Flashy looking scheme, Paul! What is the gubbins on the roof - silencer?

I'm sure GATS will be able to give more information but I think its a scrubber which is used to reduce exhaust emmissions when working in the city underground.

HAving seen (and heard) the 48 class locos at work I would have to say "no - that is not silencer, but it sure could use one!)

Yep, it's a scrubber. Two units were fitted with them when there was quite a bit of work being done during afterhours in the City Underground some years back. I'm not certain if both units are in Rail Infrastructure Corp. hands or not.

It certainly is a snazzy scheme. Very much like the WP of old, except an angled stripe. smile.gif
