do any RR still have firemen, if so what are their duties... I know if it's a steam tourist road what they have to do.

yes the other is the conductor, as far as firemen, student engineer's are usually called that. and even still there are some brakemen out there also. we use them on our locals when the men are available.

Some railroads still use firemen, only now they are called "Assistant Engineers". I remember hearing about this because people began to get the idea that on diesels, all that the fireman did was go along for the ride. But in fact, the firemen were usually sent to fix or walk the train occasionally while the conductor and engineer sat in the engine. At least with the people where I worked, the conductor and firemen would go together for safety and such. Hope that helped
