TRYING TO POST - SECOND TIME. According to the "News Wire" at "Trains.com", Norfolk Southern wiil adopt the scheduled railroad philosophy promulgated by E. Hunter Harrison of the CN. Hunter Harrison is a good ol' boy from Arkansas that has preached the scheduled railroad gospel since he was a Trainmaster on the Frisco. He's the only railroader I know of that has caused two mergers, just because the large one bought the small one to get his services (SLSF into BN and IC into CN). I find NS' doing this humorous as in the 1960's and 1970's the Southern Railway ran a helluva scheduled operation under Bill Moore and Bruce Addington, who went on to try and straighten out Penn Central. In the '60's, boxcars were loaded on PRR in New York City on Monday, floated over to Harsimus Cove after 5 PM, delivered to Southern at Potomac Yard, and delivered at a leased Southern freight house in New Orleans before noon on Wednesday. So, running a scheduled railroad is not rocket science. Maybe there's some hope for the railroad industry yet!
