View Full Version : A Transit/Commuter forum?

I notice that you have most of the mainline railroads represented, but what about the trains that move the most people, rapid transit. You could lump all of transit into one forum or split it up. There is so much here like subways/metros; light rail/trolleys/trams; and Commuter lines

What do you think?

I think this is a good idea. Let us hash it over and decide how to do it exactly. If you want to add any more input, feel free.

I whole heartedly agree! I model the Southern California Metrolink and their distinctive coaches. There is nothing like a great operating session where you have to get your freight out of the way for an express commuter train. Let's hear it for the commuter rail, light rail and subway!

As for organization, why not copy Mark's page and come up with a tree like:

+Transit and Commuter Rails
-Subways/Metros
-Light Rail/Trams/Trolleys
-Commuter/Intercity Passenger Lines
-High Speed (Interstate/Province) Lines

We are probably going to develop one forum for these types of discussions. We appreciate your input on the matter though. Please continue to post your opinions on this as we are going to do something based on your suggestions.

I would LOVE to see a commuter forum. Every morning on my walk to school I see West Coast Express across Indian Arm! What a site to wake me up!

It is okay with me that we lump it all into one "Commuter" forum. I would propose that the Forum have a charter such that it deals with Urban Transit systems which would include subways/metros, trolleys/light rail, and commuter rail. Basically anything that moves people with possible exception of intercity passenger trains.

I would love to moderate this forum, but my job pulls we away to much (Like tomorrow I'm leaving for Italy and Germany for 2 weeks)

Keep the idea alive!

Gentlemen;

We are still going to develop a forum in this regard. The idea will be to have one forum to take all of this in. One thing that I want to stress is how easy it is for various facets of one particular interest to share space and that might generate good topics and discussions. The key is to have the proper topic when you post so that people not interested in "The Hooterville Subway" don't have to bother reading the post.

If this sounds agreeable, let us know.

subwaymark: What is the difference between a subway and "intercity passenger trains?"

I agree 200%!!
My railroad is freelanced, and so is my commuter service.
It would be great if we could all have a forum for discussing both the prototype and our models, without cluttering up another board.
Just my 2 cents

Speaking of cummutor trains, anyone know when the Montreal one started and when AMT took it over?

Know what you mean! Nothing like a set of Comet IV coaches rolling by to tell you it's time to get up in the morning!
