The new Bakersfield, CA Amtrak Station Grand Opening ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday July 4, 2000. According to an article in the Bakersfield, CA newspaper, Bakersfield is the 14th busiest station in the country. Here is a look at the new station.

The new station (near Truxtun Ave. and S Street) is approximately 1 1/2 miles east of the old location (Near Truxtun Ave. and F Street). You can see the locations on the map pages on my website, as I think I have maps marking both locations. Hope this helps...I just checked my site, and there are maps marking both locations. They are under the "Kern Junction"map, and near the bottom of the page is a link to locations "West of Kern Junction".

Finally Bakersfield makes the big time. The old station didn't even have a storage area for bags. I have run a couple of rail tours out of Bakersfield both departing at 5AM. We couldn't even bring the bags to the station the day before as they had no where to keep them. I can't wait to check out the new station , it should be great. Reggie

Thanks Kevin, just got back to the 'board after a short break. I have a sreet map of Bakersfield, given to me by a friendly railfan we met at Tehachapi, which allowed us to find the hobby shop not far from the SP depot., also found the 'old' Amtak station using it.
But I didn't have your website to help then http://www.trainboard.com/smile.gif
