Hello every one,

I was wondering what a CHILD rate would be to go from Van to Bakersfield is, as I am still a child on Amtrak. Raggie has helped me alot, and I don't want to "Over ask" him questions

Thanks for the help, HAPPY RAILROADING!!

No bother. Achild fare is 1/2 price, so the $259 fare would be $129.50. This fare is only valid when traveling with an adult or senior paying their applicable fare. If a child travels alone you would pay full fare. You would also have to deal with customs & immigration when you cross the border. Reggie

Reggie, thanks for the great info via Train Board and your E Mails. if it is any repayment, I make a TAMR newsletter, and if you E Mail me your address I would be happy to forward you the next issue (Unfortunatly, I did the photocopieng today, so don't have enough http://www.trainboard.com/frown.gif ).

Anyway, back to the subject. I went to the Via Rail Canada/Amtrak/Bus station after I did the photocopieng and got AMTK rates, schedules ect.. and found a cheap, good, fast way to get to Bakersfield

Van-Sea BUS
Sea-Martinez COAST STARLIGHT
Martinez-Bakersfield SAN JOAQUINS

The great thing about it, is that on paper, all the trains have a conection. However, what I have heard about the Starlight tells me that maybe I should get on the San J.. that leaves a few hours after arrival of the Starlight.

Anyway, that was a quick update.

Happy Railroading!!!~!!!~!!!~!!!

Kewl, I'm glad you got set. If the Starlight is on time you may even be able to make the connection in Sacramento. There is 1 train daily from Sacramento to Bakersfield direct. It leaves I believe 20 or 30 minutes after the Starlight arrives. It's not a guarantee connection but ask the conductor you may be able to make it. BTW there is a great railway museum in Sacramento, The Ca. State Railway Museum. It's just a couple of blocks from the station & right on the edge of Old Town Sacramento. It opens at 10AM & I believe you can get the bus to Stockton At about 2PM to connect with the San Joaquin train that arrives Bakersfield at about 7PM. Have a great trip Reggie
