I snapped a picture of this unit on the NS today (bracketed by CSX units) and was curious... are these still GE leasers or has someone signed them? There were no reporting marks, as you can see. http://www.trainweb.org/ncrail/images/GECX3002.jpg

Nice pic, Chessie. AFAIK, they are still GE Lease/Loaner units. Just by coincidence, I was looking at the Jan/Feb 99' issue of Diesel Era, which has an article on these "Super 7" units. The six-axle units are classed as C30-S7R's, and this unit was one of three rebuilt for GE by M-K. This unit, 3002, started out as UP U30C 2956 before being rebuilt in 1989. Basically, they're C30-7's on the inside.

Saw the 3001 12/14 at CSX's Ravenna Yard in Kentucky with same paint. Are these units considered GECX for reporting marks?

They used to be, unless they have changed hands... (and nobody told us http://www.trainboard.com/frown.gif)
