Just before 1:30am EST this morning 3 freight locomotives left the tracks at the Victoria Street yard in Smiths Falls. One fuel tank ruptured and spilled some diesel fuel, but that was the extent of the damage... as far as I know.
I just heard about it on my way in to work. If I get a chance, I may head out to the Falls tonight, but it'll probably be mostly cleaned up by then.
How do you derail 3 locomotives in a yard??
Just got some more details. All the engines remained upright, but the ruptured fuel tank spilled it's contents of 3000 gallons of diesel fuel  . I saw some video on the noon news and they looked like SD-40-2s... 2 red CPR units and 1 gray and green unit. I couldn't make out the lettering on the 3rd unit... probably leased.
From what I know, no one was injured. It happened near a residential area... I'll bet that was a nice smell to wake up to!
