I was talkin to an engineer about CPRs GP38s, this isn't an exact quote, but close enough
"Ya know John, those things may look like a pile of crap, but inside they run, and they run well. 3005* may look like the worst thing to ever grace CPR rails, but she runs, and she runs great. We keep em goin, some how, and we intend to keep them that way. I would way rather have a 2-8-0 at my control, but if I have to have a diesel the GP38 may be one of the first I grab, but I have to say-those SD40-2s are pretty fine as well. Ya know John, not that I think about it, all the power on your layout is garbage&"
*=3005 is a repaint from E&N RR, it is 4 shade puke green.
&=he has F units, and GP9s (and a few pairs of RS3s)
